ECO Schools

As an Eco School we aim to promote environmental and ecological awareness amongst all of our pupils, families and the community.   We encourage whole-school action on these issues for our school, our surrounding community and our planet.

Danestone Primary School has had an Eco Committee since May 2005 which consists of a group of pupils representing each class along with staff and parents who are strongly committed to co-ordinating our school’s efforts to keep our planet happy and healthy.

In that time we have co-ordinated a wide variety of whole school environmental and ecological initiatives, which included the development of our Willow, Courtyard and Wildlife Gardens, as well as our playground development project and a range of energy conservation and waste minimisation initiatives. The school has also established global links with Belarus, Kenya and China.

We are very proud that this work has resulted in our school being accredited with four Eco-Schools Green Flag Awards, as it recognises the impact we have had in environmental education and puts us in the top 10% of environmentally aware schools across Scotland.

The Adventures of Eco Eric!

When the committee looked at our Food Waste Survey (Homework February 2015), we realised we needed to encourage more recycling and less waste.

Total Green School Awards gave us the opportunity to be creative and this short movie is the result!
