Profile

Danestone Primary School is a purpose-built school intended to house up to 420 children. The first phase of the School was opened in April, 1986 and was generously equipped by the then Grampian Regional Council. The extension to the School was completed in Spring 1988 and was put into commission in August 1988. The Nursery Unit was completed and opened in August 1997.

The School is built on the “open plan” design, with two small open courtyards in the building which have been developed into a courtyard teaching garden and the other an outdoor classroom. Accommodation consists of carpeted teaching areas, art/wet areas, three audio visual rooms, library/resource area, G.P. hall plus a staff workroom and offices for Head Teacher, Depute Head Teacher, Principal Teacher, School Administrator and Janitor. The School has its own kitchen and meals are prepared on the premises.

The School lies towards the centre of the Danestone catchment area and is easily accessible.

Children living in the catchment area are zoned to Danestone School but under the “Parents Charter” Education (Scotland) Act 1981, parents may wish to send their children to a school of their choice, provided certain regulations are observed and followed. Out of zone pupil applications are kindly received and where we have spaces to accommodate additional pupils they will be warmly welcomed to join Danestone School.

Our zoned children transfer to Oldmachar Academy for their Secondary Education. A second academy, Bridge of Don Academy, is close by. We have very close working relationships with our neighbouring primary schools, Braehead School, Forehill School, Glashieburn School, Greenbrae School, Middleton Park School & Scotstown school.
